Team Lead/Product Manager

Lightship is growing again, and we’re looking for a product manager to join our team.

Our field operations platform helps companies easily create, manage, and share data to make field operations safer and more cost effective. At Lightship, you’d be working to support daily operations, safety and emergency response for large scale operations in private and public sectors. Our (growing) customer list includes BC Wildfire, ConocoPhillips, BC Hydro, and the Canadian Government.

The Team Lead/Product Manager role is responsible for effective planning and execution of all aspects of the product life cycle, including: building roadmaps, day-to-day development management, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing and support teams to ensure development and release goals are met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the customer and development teams to create and maintain a backlog of detailed, actionable user stories.
  • Facilitate and mediate agile software development meetings (sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospective, product).
  • Work with the executive team, build and accurately manage a short, medium, and long-term product roadmap.
  • Work with Customer Project Managers to produce accurate delivery estimates and manage the transition from analysis through to design and delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to add value to the product and processes.
  • Line management and personal development of a team of highly skilled developers.
  • Work closely with the software development team to facilitate, inform and guide the direction of development work.
  • Ensure awareness, involvement and support from the key stakeholders and participants by building strong project teams and maintaining robust communication on the project status throughout its life cycle.
  • Coordinating post implementation reviews to document and understand development outcomes.
  • Project resource scheduling and department capacity planning.
    Ownership, development and management of allocated departmental processes.
  • Take responsibility for making key decisions to ensure the successful implementation of all initiatives.

SKILLS, ABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira and the Atlassian suite.
  • Experience with managing people and the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Experience in formal personal development planning and individual, team and process performance.
  • Excellent personal organisation and ability to prioritise and carry out multiple tasks.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing the delivery of system/software development projects in a structured environment.
  • Experience as a software developer is a benefit, but not a requirement.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and product management.
  • Very strong organizational skills and an ability to manage a suite of products.
  • Very strong communication skills in both technical and non-technical settings.
  • Solid problem solving and troubleshooting skills coupled with a willingness to learn.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Able to understand complex requirements and convey them in simple, concise terms.
  • Driven and self-motivated.
  • Able to manage and motivate a diverse set of development resources.

Lightship is a field operations platform that helps you easily create, manage, and share data to make your field operations more efficient. Our software supports daily operations, safety and large-scale emergency response for industrial operations, government agencies, and communities.

Lightship is based in Western Canada, and has a team that is distributed across a variety of locations in Canada and the US. The majority of our product team is located in Kamloops, BC, but we are open to remote individuals for this role who are willing to work with our team in the Pacific and Mountain time zones.
